Beautiful Camargue Horses 

The French horses of Camargue are famous as an ancient breed, their white colour, love of water and friendly nature.

  1. A GREY HORSE - with white hair and black skin beneath so grey will show through. The Camargue horse is born black/brown and turns white after about four years.

  2. AN ANCIENT BREED - The Camargue horse is one of the oldest breeds in the world.

  3. BROAD HOOVES - unaffected by moisture are well suited to their watery environment and therefore not seen as necessary to put shoes on these horses

  4. A PONY - About 13-14 hands high the Camargue horse is Technically a Pony. 

  5. NATIVE TO FRANCE - The Camargue horse lives in the wetlands of the Rhone delta. 

  6. GUARDIANS MOUNT - The Camargue horse is the mount of the Camargue "guardians" who are the cowboys and cowgirls who herd the black Camargue bulls.
  7. GOOD TEMPERAMENT - This makes the Camargue horse easy to train and great for tourists to go on cross country rides.

  8. THE FRENCH PROTECTION - In 1976 the Camargue horse is protected by the French government which has strict guidelines for breeding.
  9. HORSE OF THE SEA - Because of it's love of the marshes/wetlands, the Camargue horse has the nickname, "horse of the sea".
  10. A RUGGED SURVIVOR - Because of it's strength and makeup, the Camargue horse can go for days without food and survive on the poorest of nutrition.
